Literasiana : Journal of Library Information Literacy and Education is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and publication ethics. All manuscripts submitted to the journal are rigorously screened for plagiarism before entering the peer review process.

Types of Plagiarism Detected

The screening process identifies the following types of plagiarism:

  1. Direct Plagiarism – Verbatim copying of text without quotation marks or citation

  2. Self-Plagiarism – Reusing substantial parts of the author's own previously published work without proper citation or permission

  3. Mosaic Plagiarism – Changing words or sentence structure but maintaining the original idea without proper citation

  4. Accidental Plagiarism – Unintentional failure to cite sources correctly or paraphrasing improperly

  5. Paraphrasing Plagiarism – Rewriting someone else's ideas without giving credit

Screening Procedure

Step 1: Initial Screening upon Submission

  • Every submitted manuscript is checked using plagiarism detection software

  • Results are reviewed by the editorial team

Step 2: Decision Based on Similarity Index

≤ 20% Proceed to peer review
21% – 30% Return to author for revision (must be reduced to ≤20% before review)
> 30% Rejected immediately without peer review

Step 3: Rescreening after Revision

  • Revised manuscripts are screened again before publication

  • Authors must ensure the final version meets the similarity requirement

Step 4: Final Check before Publication

  • All accepted articles undergo a final plagiarism check before being published in an issue

Author Responsibilities

Authors submitting to Literasiana must:

  • Ensure their work is entirely original

  • Properly cite all sources of information, data, or ideas that are not their own

  • Use quotation marks for verbatim text taken from other sources

  • Disclose any prior publication of substantial parts of the manuscript (including theses, dissertations, or conference papers)

  • Avoid excessive self-citation and redundant publication

Sanctions for Plagiarism

If plagiarism is detected at any stage:

After publication Article retracted; retraction notice published; author banned from submitting for 2–5 years

For Published Articles (Post-Publication)

If plagiarism is discovered in an already published article:

  1. The article will be retracted immediately

  2. retraction notice will be published in the next available issue

  3. All online versions will be marked as "RETRACTED"

  4. The author's institution and funding bodies (if any) will be notified

  5. The author will be banned from submitting to Literasiana for a period of 5 years

Declaration by Authors

Upon submission, authors are required to include a plagiarism-free declaration statement:

*"I/We declare that this manuscript is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under consideration by another journal. All sources used are properly cited. The similarity index of this manuscript is below 20% as checked by plagiarism detection software."*
