Abstract

Background & Purpose: This study aimed to develop a quantitative 3D kinematic profile of feint-combo (compound feinting) skills in handball and to identify the key kinematic variables that best predict offensive decision-making effectiveness among senior players. The significance of this study lies in conceptualizing the feint-combo not merely as a simple deceptive movement, but as a motor time-series process. This sequence begins with presenting a false cue to the defender, followed by shifting the center of mass (CoM), altering trunk and pelvic orientations, and ultimately executing an optimal offensive decision—whether penetrating, making a decisive pass, or shooting.

Methods: A descriptive research design utilizing 3D kinematic analysis and predictive modeling was employed. The practical sample comprised fourteen (14) senior handball players registered with the Iraqi Central Handball Federation, purposively selected based on their proficiency in compound offensive performance. Performances were captured using six high-speed cameras, and spatial coordinates were processed via volumetric calibration to extract the CoM trajectory alongside trunk, pelvic, shoulder, and knee joint angles. These variables were subsequently correlated with an offensive decision-making effectiveness index.

Results: The findings revealed that change-of-direction speed, lateral displacement of the CoM, the transition duration from deception to genuine action, and trunk-pelvic dissociation (rotational separation) were the strongest predictors of decision-making effectiveness. Furthermore, multiple regression analysis demonstrated that these kinematic parameters accounted for a substantial proportion of the variance in decision-making effectiveness.

Conclusion: 3D kinematic analysis serves as a practical, objective diagnostic tool for assessing feint-combo performance quality and guiding offensive tactical training on empirical biomechanical foundations.
