Abstract

Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease that requires rational treatment to improve therapeutic success and prevent drug resistance and drug interactions. This study aims to identify the characteristics of leprosy patients, evaluate antibiotic use in patients with multibacillary (MB) leprosy at the Inpatient Unit of dr. Rehatta Kelet Jepara Regional General Hospital from January to December 2025, and determine the potential for drug interactions resulting from the administration of antibiotic combinations. This study employed a descriptive observational design with a retrospective approach based on medical record data. The sample was obtained using purposive sampling, comprising 30 cases that met the inclusion criteria. The evaluation was based on the appropriateness of drug selection and dosage in accordance with the 2019 National Guidelines for the Medical Management of Leprosy, as well as an analysis of potential interactions using the Medscape Drug Interaction Checker. The results showed that patients were predominantly in the 36-45 age group (41.38%) and were male (82.76%). The accuracy of drug selection reached 93.33%, and dosage accuracy was 100%. Potential drug interactions were found in one case (3.45%) involving the use of rifampicin and clarithromycin, whereas the use of rifampicin, ofloxacin, and minocycline (ROM) showed no potential for interactions. It was concluded that antibiotic use was in accordance with the guidelines; however, the combination of rifampicin and clarithromycin requires attention due to its potential to cause drug interactions.
